Italian restaurants, sub shops, calzone counters and Italian delis sit next to the pizzerias on this site because most of them bake pizza too, often from the same dough. Full-service Italian restaurants take reservations for dinner, add a tip line for table service (15-20% is customary) and usually run a cheaper lunch menu on weekdays. Sub and sandwich shops are counter-order and quick, with sizes by the inch or in half and whole lengths. Calzones and strombolis are priced like a medium pizza and are large enough to share. Italian delis and bakeries sell by weight and by the piece, and many close mid-afternoon.

Hours are published for 7 days a week. On most of those days it is open 7–10 am. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. You can reach Taverna Banfi at (607) 254-2565; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions. Its website is statlerhotel.cornell.edu, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.

Customers rate it 4.5 out of 5 on Google across 313 reviews, placing it among the better-regarded italian restaurants in Ithaca.

Ithaca is in New York, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. Traffic in Ithaca peaks on weekday mornings and afternoons, so allow extra time then. Always a pleasure to return to Taverna Banfi. Had great breakfasts and dinners there over the years. Very consistent and pleasant warm service from start to finish. LOVE the pan seared salmon with quinoa and the shrimp scampi.

The food here was excellent overall. Every steak we tried was cooked well and full of flavor. If you’re a steak lover, you really can’t go wrong with any of the options. The complimentary bread was fresh, and the olive oil and vinegar pairing was a great touch. Overall, it was a very enjoyable dining experience. The only reason I’m giving four stars instead of five is that the service could use some improvement. I’d still happily come back for the food.

My wife took me here for my 65th birthday. We both opted for the L lunch buffet. It changes daily and the two main entrees were flank steak and salmon. Both the steak and salmon were delicious. in addition there was a variety of cold salads, potatoes and onions cauliflower, broccoli with pearl onions, a warm Tortalini salad, rolls and butter. The desserts were plentiful including, flan custard, peanut butter brownies, chocolate cake, teramisu, and banana pudding. Everything was excellent. The Buffet changes daily and if you call they will let you know what is being served that day. If you make a reservation you are given 3 free hours of valet parking. Had a window seat with beautiful views of the campus. Excellent service from start to finish. They even presented me with a birthday cupcake. Next time we will try the weekend brunch.

My husband and I went to Taverna Banfi to celebrate his 30th birthday and had a lovely experience. We enjoyed the brunch buffet with breakfast, lunch, and desserts. The ambience was beautiful, and the staff were incredibly warm and attentive. We mentioned the birthday during reservation, and they surprised us with a big cupcake that said β€œHappy Birthday,” which was such a thoughtful touch! The food was good, but the overall experience was excellent. The brunch buffet costs $35 per person plus tax and is totally worth it.

First off, the bread given to us was so fresh and tasty. We ordered the octopus appetizer, the fried chicken entree (which I added potato puree to), and the salmon entree, and they were all delicious!! We also ordered a cheesecake for dessert, which tasted great. Most notable of our great experience was the wonderful staff and service. Our server was Kevin, who was so kind and patient. We had inquiries about breakfast the next day at dinner. He does not normally serve at breakfast, but he helped us by asking the staff and gave us good advice! I have a sensitive stomach, and Kevin, bless his soul, went back to the kitchen 5 times to refill my hot water. He was very accommodating and attentive! Would 100% return; thank you Kevin!
